Meet Your Seamstress
Hi, I’m Jess Vaira (she/her) founder, designer, pattern maker, sewer and pretty much everything else-er for exquisite corps. I have always been a maker and whether the medium is music, textiles, plant medicine or ferments, it’s important to me to create things that are purposeful, authentic and as gentle on the environment as I can. Exquisite corps was born from my experience of co-owning a clothing boutique (twigg&hottie) and our house label (we3 designs) in Vancouver, BC Canada (home of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations) whose focus was independent, Canadian and sustainable design. It was a fun, crazy, hard and wonderful 12 years.
Once it was over it became clear to me that there was no one thing that I could make to satisfy the needs of every individual. That creating a new season of clothes every six months was inherently wasteful and inefficient even if it was locally produced and made from sustainable textiles.
Exquisite Corps is my solution. A project where I collaborate with you the wearer, to create custom slow fashion garments chosen from finely curated options and natural textiles.
