FAQ

Are there other fabric/color options?

You bet! We have an ever changing inventory of reclaimed or recycled fabrics on offer. Email us and we'll send you the list. We can also source other linen colours though be aware, this will affect turn around times. We can also work with fabric that you provide for local clients in Vancouver, BC, Canada (home of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations.) Drop us a line for availability.

Unfortunately we don't have control over international fees. All shipping costs including duties and tariffs for deliveries outside of Canada, will be assumed and paid for by the customer. Returns + Refunds

Custom garments: Each custom garment we make is created to individual specifications which makes offering returns tricky. We want you to be thrilled with your purchase so if you are at all unsure about sizing, fit, design choices or any other part of the process, please do get in touch and ask questions! Payment is not required until you are 100% satisfied and have signed off on your design.

Care + Washing Instructions

As with all natural fibres, proper laundering and care go a long way to preserve the integrity of the fabric. Once it is sufficiently dirty to need it (we are big proponents of water conservation!) we recommend cold machine wash, hang to dry, medium heat iron though truth be told we hardly ever iron as we prefer the wrinkled look. Pro tip: hang your piece up in bathroom as you have a hot shower so some of the wrinkles can steam out! Your linen piece begins somewhat stiff but softens up and has a beautiful drape and texture over time.

What is slow fashion?

Slow fashion is a term that has arisen to differentiate from the harmful, wasteful fast fashion industry. It is staggering to think about how many clothes end up in landfill each year because of overproduction or because they simply fall apart with planned obsolescence and poor-quality construction. Enormous resources, both human and extractive, have been exploited to create those clothes at a high volume and low price. We choose to work with natural textiles that will biodegrade, and only produce a garment once someone has decided to order it. This reduces waste and provides a living wage for exquisite corps and the folks we work with..

What is so great about linen?!

In our opinion linen which is made from the flax plant is one of the most sustainable fibers available as it requires very little water and no chemicals to grow. It is a baste fiber (made from the stalk of the plant) which makes it very durable and long lasting. Linen breathes exceptionally well and has great thermogenic properties which keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This is due to the inter-fiber space contracting when it is cold to keep warm air in and expanding in the heat to let air out. At first your garment will feel a little stiff but trust us it is worth the wait! With wear and washing (cool water and hang to dry is recommended) your garment will become very soft and comfortable.

What is the meaning behind exquisite corps?

Our name was inspired by a game that I used to play as a child . You know the one: where you’d fold a piece of paper into three, and one person would draw the top, another the middle, and a third would draw the bottom, all without seeing each other’s sections. You would unfold the paper with wild anticipation to see the totally unique collaborative drawing you had made together. I found out later that this game was called exquisite corpse and it was invented by the surrealist painters of the 1920s. This idea of breaking a garment down into three sections and being able to mix and match the components in a collaborative way was the inspiration for this project.
